About this map

Idaho 511 is the Idaho Transportation Department's public traffic-camera network, and it stretches to cover a state that is really two very different driving worlds. Across the southern tier, Interstate 84 runs 276 miles along the Snake River Plain from the Oregon line near Ontario through Boise, Mountain Home, and the Magic Valley to the Utah line toward Salt Lake City. Far to the north, the roads climb into the panhandle, where Interstate 90 crosses Fourth of July Pass and Lookout Pass, and US-95 threads the only continuous north-south route in the state. The roughly 457 cameras on Idaho 511 let you see all of it before you commit to a drive.

Every image on this page is a still photo that refreshes on a short interval, not a live video stream. Reload the page or reopen a camera to pull the newest frame. On a clear day the pictures simply confirm dry pavement; in a storm they are the difference between guessing and knowing, showing you whether Fourth of July Pass is snow-packed, whether White Bird Hill is blowing over, or whether Magic Valley fog has swallowed I-84. Idaho's cameras are its own eyes on some very remote and very weather-exposed highway.

One important caveat on weather: ITD's roadside cameras do not carry reliable on-road sensors that report pavement temperature or surface condition. To give you a useful read on what the sky is doing, this site pairs each camera with the nearest National Weather Service airport station and shows that airport's conditions alongside the camera. Treat it as a regional gauge of temperature, wind, and precipitation near the camera, not as a measurement of the road surface in the frame. When the picture and the airport reading disagree, trust the picture and slow down.

Statewide

The full Idaho 511 network in one view, from the panhandle border with Canada down to the Nevada line. Use the statewide map to plan a long haul that crosses regions, then zoom into a corridor for the individual passes and city interchanges. This is the place to start when your trip runs the length of I-84 across the south, or all the way up US-95, and you want a single picture of where the weather is.

Boise & the Treasure Valley

The busiest stretch of highway in the state, where I-84 threads the Treasure Valley from the Oregon line near Ontario through Nampa, Caldwell, and Meridian into Boise. The I-184 Connector spur peels off downtown, and the Boise-area cameras cover the commuter interchanges and the on-ramps that back up first in snow or rain. Check these before a morning drive across the valley or before heading east onto the high desert.

Twin Falls & the Magic Valley

I-84 runs east across the Magic Valley past Jerome, staying just north of Twin Falls, while US-93 carries traffic south over the Perrine Bridge, which spans the Snake River Canyon nearly 500 feet above the water. This is fog and blowing-snow country: flat, open farmland where visibility can drop fast. The cameras here help you judge whether the Magic Valley is socked in before you leave the interchange at Jerome.

Pocatello, Idaho Falls & I-15

Southeast Idaho's spine is I-15, running from the Utah line through Pocatello, Blackfoot, and Idaho Falls toward the Montana border at Monida Pass. I-86 ties this corridor back to I-84 near Declo, and US-20 and US-26 branch east toward Yellowstone and the Tetons. The cameras cover the Pocatello and Idaho Falls interchanges plus the exposed stretches where wind and snow blow across the interstate.

Coeur d’Alene & the Panhandle

I-90 crosses the northern panhandle from the Washington line through Coeur d'Alene, climbing over Fourth of July Pass and running the Silver Valley to Lookout Pass at the Montana border, 4,710 feet up. These are the passes people watch all winter. Panhandle cameras also cover US-95 north through Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry toward the Canadian border at Eastport, where snow and ice arrive early and stay late.

North-Central & US-95

The rugged middle of the state, where US-95 is the lifeline connecting Lewiston and the Camas Prairie to the rest of Idaho. The signature obstacle is White Bird Hill, the long grade between White Bird and Grangeville that climbs roughly 2,700 feet and drifts shut in bad weather. Cameras along this corridor, and up the Clearwater toward Lewiston and Moscow, show you the grade and the canyon before you drop into them.

Tips for using Idaho road cameras

  • These are refreshing still images, not live video. If a camera looks frozen or shows an old scene, reload the page or reopen the camera to fetch the newest frame before you judge the road.
  • Watch the mountain passes closely in winter. Fourth of July Pass and Lookout Pass on I-90, White Bird Hill on US-95, and Galena Summit on SR-75 all snow, ice, and close. A quick camera check can save you from starting up a grade that is already shut.
  • Use the airport weather as a regional gauge, not a road reading. Each camera is paired with the nearest National Weather Service airport station for temperature, wind, and precipitation nearby; it does not measure the pavement in the picture, so let the image itself decide how fast you drive.
  • Respect the fog and blowing snow in the Magic Valley. The open farmland along I-84 near Jerome and Twin Falls can drop to near-zero visibility fast; scan several cameras along your route, not just one, before crossing.
  • Plan for long remote gaps on I-84's high desert and on US-95 between towns. Cameras thin out where the highway does; fuel up, and check the cameras on both sides of an empty stretch before you drive it.
  • Pair the cameras with ITD's mountain-pass reports and closure alerts on Idaho 511. The photos tell you what a spot looks like right now; the official reports tell you whether a pass is restricted, chains-required, or closed ahead.

Idaho road camera guides

In-depth guides to the highways, passes and destinations we cover here.

Frequently asked questions

How many traffic cameras are on Idaho 511?
The Idaho Transportation Department operates roughly 457 cameras across the state through Idaho 511. They cluster along the interstates and mountain passes, with additional cameras on key US routes like US-95, US-93, and US-20.
Are these live video streams?
No. Idaho 511's cameras are still images that refresh on a short interval, not continuous video. Reload the page or reopen a camera to pull the latest frame; each image is a fresh snapshot of the road, not a recording.
Do the cameras show road-surface temperature or ice conditions?
Not directly. ITD's cameras do not carry reliable on-road weather sensors, so this site shows the nearest National Weather Service airport's conditions alongside each camera as a regional gauge of temperature, wind, and precipitation. Use the picture itself to judge whether the pavement looks wet, snowy, or icy.
Which Idaho mountain passes should I check before driving?
In the north, Fourth of July Pass and Lookout Pass on I-90 east of Coeur d'Alene. On US-95, White Bird Hill between White Bird and Grangeville. In central Idaho, Galena Summit on SR-75 at 8,701 feet. On I-15, the Monida Pass area toward Montana. All of these can be snow-packed or closed in winter.
What is the main route across southern Idaho?
Interstate 84 is the primary artery. It enters from Oregon near Ontario, passes through Boise, where the I-184 Connector spurs downtown, then continues through Mountain Home and the Magic Valley near Twin Falls before splitting toward the Utah line and Salt Lake City at the I-86 junction near Declo.
How do I check the Perrine Bridge and Twin Falls area?
Use the Twin Falls and the Magic Valley area on this page. US-93 crosses the Snake River Canyon on the Perrine Bridge just north of Twin Falls, and cameras along US-93 and nearby I-84 show the bridge approaches and the often foggy Magic Valley farmland.
Is US-95 really the only continuous north-south highway in Idaho?
Yes. US-95 runs the full length of the state, roughly 538 miles from the Canadian border at Eastport through Coeur d'Alene, Moscow, Lewiston, and Grangeville down to the Nevada line in remote Owyhee County. It is the only through route linking the panhandle to southern Idaho, which makes its passes, especially White Bird Hill, worth watching.
What about roads into neighboring states?
Idaho's cameras connect to live networks in every direction. Heading south on I-84 or I-15 toward Salt Lake City, check Utah's cameras at /udot-cameras. West on I-84 into Oregon, see /odot-cameras. Northwest via I-90 or US-95 toward Spokane, use Washington at /wsdot-cameras. East over the I-90 passes or up I-15, see Montana at /mdt-cameras.
