About this map
Maryland MDOT is the live-camera network run by the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration's Coordinated Highways Action Response Team. We surface roughly 554 of its cameras on a single map, spanning the Baltimore metro, the DC suburbs along the Capital Beltway, the approaches to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, the Eastern Shore beach routes, the Western Maryland mountains, and the Southern Maryland peninsulas. Whether you are timing a run to Ocean City, gauging the Fort McHenry Tunnel backup, or checking I-68 before climbing Big Savage Mountain, you can see the actual road before you commit to it.
These are live video cameras, not still snapshots. Each Maryland MDOT camera streams live HLS video that plays right in your browser, so when you tap a marker you watch traffic move in real time rather than refreshing a frozen image. That makes it easy to tell a genuine standstill from a momentary slowdown, judge how fast a queue is clearing on the I-495 Capital Beltway, or confirm whether the Bay Bridge is actually crawling before you join the line. The feeds update continuously the way a video does, with no waiting between frames.
MDOT cameras do not carry their own on-road weather sensors, so we pair each one with the conditions reported at the nearest National Weather Service airport station. That gives you a reliable read on temperature, wind, and visibility near the camera, which matters most when fog or high winds threaten the Chesapeake Bay Bridge or when snow and ice move across the I-68 and I-70 mountain corridors. Treat it as the nearest airport's conditions alongside each camera, a useful supplement to the live video rather than a reading from the pavement itself.

Statewide

Baltimore
The densest cluster of cameras in the state covers the Baltimore core: I-95 through the Fort McHenry Tunnel, the I-695 Beltway loop, I-83 on the Jones Falls Expressway, I-70, I-97, and the I-895 Harbor Tunnel. Live video makes it easy to compare the two harbor tunnel crossings and spot Beltway backups before you choose a route.
DC Suburbs (Capital Beltway)
Cameras line the I-495 Capital Beltway and I-270 toward Frederick through Montgomery and Prince George's counties, plus I-95 and US-50 across the inner suburbs. The I-495 and I-270 interchange is one of the nation's worst bottlenecks, so watch the live feeds before committing to the inner or outer loop.
Annapolis & the Bay Bridge
This view follows I-97 from Baltimore down to Annapolis and US-50/301 across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to Kent Island. Live video is the fastest way to see whether the dual spans are flowing or backed up, and to judge summer beach traffic and wind or fog restrictions before you reach the toll plaza.
Eastern Shore
Cameras follow US-50 and US-13 through Salisbury and out along the Ocean Gateway, with US-113 feeding south toward Ocean City and the Worcester County beaches. On summer weekends the live feeds show exactly where the beach-bound crawl begins so you can plan around it.
Frederick & Western Maryland
Coverage climbs west on I-70 and I-68 over Big Savage Mountain toward Cumberland, with I-81 and US-15 threading through Frederick and Hagerstown. These mountain grades are where Maryland's worst winter snow and ice hit, so the live video plus the nearest airport's conditions are worth a look before you climb.
Southern Maryland
Cameras track US-301 and MD-5 through Waldorf and out MD-4 and MD-2 toward the Calvert and St. Mary's peninsulas. This is the quieter corner of the network, but the feeds help with the daily commuter pinch points heading toward the Capital Beltway and the Potomac crossings.
Tips for using Maryland road cameras
- Tap any camera to watch live video. Maryland MDOT feeds stream live HLS that plays in your browser, so you see traffic actually moving instead of a still image, which makes a real jam easy to tell apart from a brief slowdown.
- Before the Bay Bridge, check both the Annapolis-side and Kent Island-side cameras. On summer weekends and holidays the backup toward Ocean City can stretch for miles, and the live video tells you how far the queue really reaches.
- In Baltimore, compare the Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95) and Harbor Tunnel (I-895) cameras side by side. When one crossing stalls, the other is often the faster way under the harbor, and the live feeds show you which is moving.
- Use the nearest airport's conditions shown alongside each camera as a weather supplement. MDOT cameras have no on-road sensors, so the airport reading is your best quick gauge of wind, fog, and visibility near that spot.
- In winter, scout the Western Maryland grades first. Snow and ice hit I-68 over Big Savage Mountain and I-70 west of Frederick hardest, so check those cameras and the airport conditions before climbing.
- On the Capital Beltway, watch the I-495 and I-270 interchange cameras during rush hour. It is one of the country's worst bottlenecks, and the live video helps you decide between the inner and outer loop before you are committed.

How many cameras are there and where do they cover?
There are roughly 554 live cameras across Maryland. Coverage concentrates in the Baltimore metro and the DC suburbs along the Capital Beltway, and extends to the Bay Bridge approaches, the Eastern Shore beach routes, the Western Maryland mountains, and the Southern Maryland peninsulas.
Can I see the Chesapeake Bay Bridge traffic?
Yes. The Annapolis and the Bay Bridge view includes cameras on US-50/301 at the dual spans and their approaches. The live video is the quickest way to see whether the bridge is flowing or backed up toward Ocean City, and to spot wind or fog restrictions before you reach the toll plaza.
Do the cameras show the weather?
Not directly. MDOT cameras have no on-road weather sensors, so we show the nearest National Weather Service airport's conditions alongside each camera. That gives you a solid read on temperature, wind, and visibility near the camera, which is especially useful around the Bay Bridge and the mountain corridors.
Which Baltimore tunnels can I check?
Both. You can watch the Fort McHenry Tunnel on I-95 and the Harbor Tunnel on I-895, along with the I-695 Beltway, I-83 Jones Falls Expressway, I-70, and I-97. Comparing the two tunnel feeds is the fastest way to pick the quicker harbor crossing.
What about winter conditions in Western Maryland?
The Frederick and Western Maryland view covers I-70 and I-68 over Big Savage Mountain toward Cumberland, plus I-81 and US-15. These mountain grades get Maryland's heaviest snow and ice, so check the live video and the nearest airport's conditions before you climb in winter.
