About this map

Mississippi drives on its interstates, and the Mississippi Department of Transportation watches them through MDOT Traffic, the public-facing window at mdottraffic.com into the state's traffic operations. Our Mississippi DOT camera map gathers roughly 395 of those live cameras into one fast, searchable view so you can see I-55, I-20, I-10, I-59 and the rest of the network before you commit to a drive. Coverage is heaviest in the Jackson metro and along the Gulf Coast, where MDOT runs the densest clusters, and reaches out to Hattiesburg, the DeSoto County suburbs below Memphis, Meridian, Tupelo, Vicksburg and the Delta.

The backbone is the interstate network. I-55 is the north-south spine, running 290-plus miles from the Tennessee line at Southaven, just below Memphis, through Jackson and on past Brookhaven and McComb to the Louisiana border near Osyka. I-20 crosses east-west, entering over the Mississippi River at Vicksburg, merging briefly with I-55 through Jackson, and continuing to Meridian and the Alabama line. I-59 climbs from Louisiana through Picayune, Hattiesburg and Laurel to Meridian, where it joins I-20 to the state line. Along the bottom of the state, I-10 traces the Gulf Coast for about 77 miles from Louisiana through Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi and Pascagoula toward Mobile, Alabama. Add I-220, the Jackson bypass linking I-55 and I-20, plus the major US routes, US-49 from Gulfport through Hattiesburg to Jackson and the Delta, and US-61, the Blues Highway up the Mississippi River through Vicksburg, Greenville and Clarksdale toward Memphis, and you have the roads that carry the state.

One thing to know up front: these MDOT cameras do not carry native road-weather sensors on the public feed. To give you conditions anyway, each camera on our map is paired with the nearest National Weather Service airport station, so the temperature, wind and sky you see is the nearest airport's conditions shown alongside each camera rather than an on-pavement measurement. That is genuinely useful for tracking a line of storms or a tropical system moving in, but treat it as air weather near the road, not a surface-temperature reading. On a rare icy morning, bridges and overpasses can be freezing even when the airport gauge looks marginal, so use the camera picture itself as your final check.

Statewide

The full Mississippi picture across every interstate and major route MDOT monitors, from the Tennessee line at Southaven down I-55 to Louisiana, east-west on I-20 from Vicksburg to Meridian, and along the Gulf Coast on I-10. Use this view to scan the long spines, I-55, I-20, I-10 and I-59, when you are planning a cross-state drive or watching a storm system move across Dixie Alley. Each camera is paired with the nearest NWS airport station for conditions.

Jackson

The densest coverage in the state, centered on the capital. This view holds the I-55 and I-20 interchange through downtown, where the two interstates briefly run together across the Pearl River, the I-220 bypass looping the north and west sides, and the US-49 corridor heading toward Hattiesburg and the Gulf. It is the place to check before any rush-hour run through Jackson, Ridgeland, Madison, Pearl or Clinton, and a key watch point when the Pearl River rises and threatens flooding. Conditions come from the nearest airport station.

Gulf Coast

The I-10 and US-90 corridors along the bottom of the state through Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties: Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi and Pascagoula toward the Alabama line and Mobile. This is hurricane and tropical-storm country, where I-10 and US-49 become the evacuation routes when a storm threatens, and where US-90 hugs the beachfront casinos and the Gulf itself. Cameras here are essential in storm season and on busy summer weekends. Each image is matched to the nearest NWS airport for weather.

Hattiesburg & the Pine Belt

The I-59 corridor through the Pine Belt, where the interstate runs concurrently with US-98 through Hattiesburg and with US-84 through Laurel on its way north to Meridian. US-49 crosses here too, the four-lane link from the Gulf Coast up toward Jackson, passing the University of Southern Mississippi and Camp Shelby. A heavily traveled freight and evacuation route, and a frequent target for the severe storms and tornadoes that sweep this part of the state. Weather is drawn from the nearest airport reading.

DeSoto & Southaven

The northern gateway below Memphis, where I-55 enters from Tennessee through Southaven and Hernando, I-69 and I-269 form the outer Memphis beltway across DeSoto County through Olive Branch, and the suburbs sprawl toward the Tennessee line. This is fast, busy commuter and truck traffic feeding the Memphis metro, and a winter trouble spot on the rare days ice reaches this far south. Cameras here are matched to the nearest airport station for conditions.

Meridian

The eastern crossroads where I-20 and I-59 meet and run together to the Alabama state line near York. This is the gateway to the Deep South via Alabama, a major truck corridor, and a frequent spot for severe weather rolling in from the west. A compact but important set of cameras covering the interchange and the approaches that knot up when there is a crash or a storm. Conditions shown are the nearest airport's reading.

The Delta

The flat, fertile northwest of the state along US-61, the Blues Highway, running up the Mississippi River through Vicksburg, Greenville, Cleveland and Clarksdale toward Memphis, plus the US-49 corridor and the Greenwood area. This is blues country and farm country, exposed to river and backwater flooding and to the tornadoes that track across the Delta from the southwest. Coverage is thinner here than in the metros, so expect bigger gaps between cameras. Each is paired with the nearest NWS airport for weather.

Tips for using Mississippi road cameras

  • Coverage is concentrated where the traffic is. The Jackson metro and the Gulf Coast have by far the most cameras, with solid clusters around Hattiesburg, the DeSoto County suburbs, Meridian and Vicksburg. The Delta and the rural stretches between cities are thinner, so plan on bigger gaps between cameras once you leave the metros.
  • Use the area presets to skip the scrolling. Tapping Jackson, Gulf Coast or DeSoto & Southaven jumps you straight to that part of the network instead of hunting across the whole state.
  • Remember the weather is from the nearest airport, not the pavement. The temperature and wind next to each camera is the closest NWS airport's reading. It is great for tracking an incoming storm line or a tropical system, but on a rare icy morning the bridge deck can be freezing while the airport gauge reads above 32, so trust the camera image.
  • In hurricane season, watch the Gulf Coast and the evacuation routes. When a storm threatens, I-10, I-59 and US-49 carry the northbound traffic off the coast, and MDOT can run contraflow on I-59 and I-55. Check the cameras along these corridors before you leave, and follow official MEMA and MDOT evacuation orders, not just the camera picture.
  • Mississippi is in Dixie Alley, so treat the cameras as a severe-weather tool. When a tornado watch or a squall line is moving through, the cameras can show you blinding rain, downed trees or stopped traffic on I-20, I-55 or I-59 before you drive into it. Pair the image with the nearest airport's wind reading.
  • Watch the rivers, not just the sky. The Pearl River can flood low-lying Jackson, the Delta and the Vicksburg area flood along the Mississippi and its backwaters, and dense fog settles into the river bottoms. A quick look at the cameras in those corridors shows you standing water and visibility before you commit to the route.

Mississippi road camera guides

In-depth guides to the highways, passes and destinations we cover here.

Frequently asked questions

How many cameras are on the Mississippi map, and where do they come from?
Roughly 395 live cameras, all from the Mississippi Department of Transportation's MDOT Traffic system at mdottraffic.com, the same feed MDOT uses to monitor the highways. We gather them onto one fast, searchable map so you can scan corridors like I-55, I-20, I-10 and I-59 without clicking through the official site camera by camera.
Do the Mississippi cameras show road temperature or pavement conditions?
No. The public MDOT Traffic camera feed does not carry native road-weather sensors. To give you conditions anyway, we pair each camera with the nearest National Weather Service airport station, so you see the nearest airport's air temperature and wind alongside each camera, not an on-pavement reading. Use the camera image itself as the final check on what the road is actually doing.
Why does the weather sometimes look fine while the camera shows rain, fog or flooding?
Because the weather number comes from the nearest airport, which can be miles away. River-bottom fog, a passing squall line, and Pearl River or Delta flooding can all be far worse at the camera than an airport gauge suggests. Always let the camera image be the tiebreaker, especially in storm season and near the rivers.
Which corridors have the best camera coverage?
The Jackson metro has the densest network, covering the I-55 and I-20 interchange, the I-220 bypass and US-49. The Gulf Coast is also well covered along I-10 and US-90 through Gulfport, Biloxi and Pascagoula. Hattiesburg on I-59, the DeSoto County suburbs on I-55 and I-269, Meridian and Vicksburg all have solid clusters, while the Delta and rural stretches are thinner.
Can I use these cameras to plan a hurricane evacuation?
They help, but they are not the official source. When a storm threatens the Gulf Coast, the cameras on I-10, I-59 and US-49 let you see how heavy the northbound traffic is, and MDOT can run contraflow on I-59 and I-55 to add capacity. For evacuation orders, contraflow status and route guidance, always follow the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and MDOT directly.
Is this the official MDOT Traffic site?
No. We pull the same public MDOT camera feeds onto a faster, mobile-friendly map with area presets and nearest-airport weather. For official incident, construction, closure and evacuation information, MDOT's own mdottraffic.com site and its 511 service remain the authoritative source.
Are the cameras live or recorded?
They are frequently refreshed still images, not continuous video, the standard for DOT traffic cameras. Reload to pull the latest frame. That is plenty to read congestion, rain, fog, standing water and storm damage on the highways.
What if I'm driving into a neighboring state?
We cover Mississippi's live neighbors too. Heading east on I-20, I-59 or I-10 toward Tuscaloosa, Birmingham or Mobile, check our Alabama cameras at /aldot-cameras. Continuing on into the Deep South toward Atlanta, see the Georgia cameras at /gdot-cameras. And to jump between any of our states, start from the all-states road cameras hub at /road-cameras.
