About this map

This map brings together the live road cameras from Louisiana's official 511 system — operated by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) and published at 511la.org — into one fast, searchable view. With roughly 425 cameras concentrated on the interstates and big-river crossings, you can check New Orleans gridlock, the Baton Rouge bridge backup, fog over the swamp, or a tropical-storm-soaked I-10 before you ever leave the driveway. Each feed is a refreshing still image, not continuous video.

Coverage follows the I-10 spine that ties the state together and the metros it threads through. In the southeast you'll find dense coverage around New Orleans — I-10, the I-610 bypass and I-510 spur, the US-90 Westbank Expressway, the Crescent City Connection over the Mississippi, the Superdome interchange, and the I-10 Twin Span over Lake Pontchartrain — running west through Metairie and Kenner. Baton Rouge is the choke point where I-10 and I-12 split and where the Horace Wilkinson Bridge carries I-10 over the river. West of there, I-10 crosses the 18-mile Atchafalaya Basin Bridge toward Lafayette and Acadiana, continues over the Calcasieu River at Lake Charles toward Texas, and I-20, I-49 and I-220 carry the north through Shreveport, Bossier City, Ruston and Monroe.

Use the area presets to jump straight to your region, search for a specific interstate or city, save your most-checked cameras as favorites, and read the nearest airport's conditions alongside each camera. One important note for Louisiana: these are traffic-monitoring cameras with no on-road weather sensors, and the state's airports are sparse — so the temperature, wind and visibility you see come from the nearest National Weather Service airport station, which for rural and swamp cameras can be a fair distance away. It's a quick, traveler-first gut check for commuters, evacuees, truckers and road-trippers who'd rather see the road than guess.

Statewide

A bird's-eye view of every LADOTD camera across Louisiana, covering the full reach of the I-10 spine from the Texas line through Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge and New Orleans to Mississippi, plus I-12, I-20, I-49 and the big-river and lake crossings. The best at-a-glance read before any long Gulf-coast drive.

New Orleans

Dense coverage through the metro core — I-10, the I-610 bypass, the I-510 spur and the US-90 Westbank Expressway — including the Crescent City Connection over the Mississippi, the Superdome interchange, and the I-10 Twin Span crossing the east end of Lake Pontchartrain toward Slidell, out through Metairie and Kenner past the airport. Key views for hurricane evacuation, river-bridge fog and chronic congestion.

Baton Rouge

Cameras around the state capital where I-10 and I-12 split — one of Louisiana's worst bottlenecks — plus I-110 into downtown and the Horace Wilkinson Bridge carrying I-10 over the Mississippi from Port Allen. A single incident on the bridge can gridlock the whole city, so this is the preset to scan before committing to the crossing.

Lafayette & Acadiana

I-10, I-49 and US-90 cameras through the heart of Acadiana, anchored by the I-10 Atchafalaya Basin Bridge — an 18-mile elevated crossing of the swamp that is one of the longest bridges in the country and a notorious spot for fog and crashes. Watch the basin approaches before you commit to the span.

Lake Charles & I-10 West

I-10 and the I-210 loop across southwest Louisiana, centered on the Calcasieu River bridge at Lake Charles and running west through Sulphur toward the Texas state line. A heavily traveled freight and evacuation corridor where the aging river bridge and Gulf weather routinely slow traffic.

Shreveport & the North

I-20, I-49 and the I-220 bypass through northern Louisiana — Shreveport and Bossier City in the northwest, east along I-20 through Ruston to Monroe. Cooler and higher than the coast, this is the part of the state most likely to see the occasional winter ice event alongside the usual fog and storms.

Tips for using Louisiana road cameras

  • Hurricane season runs June through November, and evacuation is the headline hazard here. When a major storm threatens, the state can run contraflow on I-10, I-55 and I-59 out of the southeast — scan the New Orleans and Baton Rouge cameras early, because once contraflow is up, routes and on-ramps change.
  • Before crossing the I-10 Twin Span over Lake Pontchartrain or the 18-mile Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, check the cameras for fog first — these long, low water crossings fog in fast and visibility can collapse mid-span.
  • Baton Rouge is the state's worst chokepoint. Check the Horace Wilkinson Bridge and the I-10/I-12 split before you head through; a single crash on the bridge can back traffic up for miles in every direction.
  • Louisiana is a low, swampy state and floods quickly. After heavy rain or a tropical system, use the cameras to judge standing water and spray on I-10, US-90 and the urban underpasses before you drive into them.
  • Save your regular cameras as favorites — your New Orleans commute, the Baton Rouge bridge, your stretch of I-49 — so they load with one tap next time you're checking conditions.
  • The weather shown is from the nearest airport station, not a sensor on the road, and in rural Louisiana that station may be far away. Use it for general context, but trust the camera image itself, and confirm closures and evacuation orders with LADOTD at 511la.org or by dialing 511 in Louisiana.

Louisiana road camera guides

In-depth guides to the highways, passes and destinations we cover here.

Frequently asked questions

How often do the Louisiana 511 cameras update?
The cameras come from LADOTD's official 511 system at 511la.org and refresh on a regular interval, typically every minute or few minutes depending on the site. You're seeing a recent still image rather than continuous video, so reload the camera you're checking for the latest frame.
Which Louisiana roads and highways do the cameras cover?
Coverage centers on the I-10 spine across the south — through Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge and New Orleans — plus I-12, I-110 and I-210, the I-610 and I-510 routes around New Orleans, US-90, and I-20, I-49 and I-220 across the north through Shreveport, Bossier City, Ruston and Monroe. Big crossings like the Crescent City Connection, the Horace Wilkinson Bridge, the I-10 Twin Span and the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge are included.
Can I check New Orleans traffic with these cameras?
Yes. The New Orleans preset focuses on I-10, the I-610 bypass, the I-510 spur and the US-90 Westbank Expressway, including the Crescent City Connection over the Mississippi, the Superdome interchange and the I-10 Twin Span across Lake Pontchartrain, out through Metairie and Kenner — so you can scan for backups and incidents before heading out.
Do the cameras help during a hurricane evacuation?
They're a useful real-time gut check. When a major storm threatens the southeast, the state can run contraflow on I-10, I-55 and I-59, doubling the outbound lanes. The cameras let you see how the corridors are actually flowing, but always follow official evacuation orders and contraflow instructions from LADOTD and local emergency officials — conditions change quickly during a storm.
Why does the weather shown not match the road in the picture?
Louisiana's traffic cameras have no road-weather sensors, so the temperature, wind and visibility come from the nearest National Weather Service airport station. Louisiana's airports are sparse, so for rural and swamp cameras the nearest station can be a fair distance away. Treat it as the nearest airport's conditions alongside the camera, not a reading from the road itself — and trust the image for what's actually in frame.
Can I save my most-used Louisiana cameras?
Yes. Tap the favorite icon on any camera to keep your regular checks together — your New Orleans commute, the Baton Rouge bridge, the Atchafalaya crossing or a stretch of I-49 — so they're one tap away on your next trip.
Are these the official Louisiana DOT cameras?
The images come directly from LADOTD's official Louisiana 511 system at 511la.org. This site is an independent, non-commercial travel helper that organizes them for easier browsing; for official closures, evacuation orders and alerts, always confirm with LADOTD or dial 511 in Louisiana.
Does this site cover road cameras in neighboring states?
Yes. Heading east on I-10, I-12, I-20, I-55 or I-59 toward the state line, you can switch to the live Mississippi cameras, and heading west on I-10 past Lake Charles toward Beaumont and Houston you can pull up the live Houston, Texas cameras — so you can plan a Gulf Coast trip across state lines from one place.
