About this map

Ohio is a state built on interstates, and almost every long drive here touches one of the big four. I-71 runs the diagonal spine from Cincinnati through Columbus to Cleveland, I-70 crosses east-west through Dayton and Columbus, I-75 carries Cincinnati-Dayton-Toledo truck traffic up to Michigan, and the Ohio Turnpike (I-80/I-90) stitches the north together from the Indiana line to Pennsylvania. Tie in the downtown bottlenecks (Columbus's I-70/I-71 Split, Cleveland's Innerbelt and Dead Man's Curve, the Brent Spence Bridge at Cincinnati) and you have a network where a single stall can back things up for miles. What sets Ohio apart is the weather data riding alongside the pictures. OHGO operates roughly 170 native RWIS (Road Weather Information System) sensor sites planted right along ODOT-maintained roadways, and every camera on our map is linked to its nearest one. That means the temperature, dewpoint, humidity, and wind you see next to a camera are genuine on-the-road readings, not a number borrowed from an airport thirty miles away. Where the sensor reports it, you also get pavement and surface conditions. For winter driving that distinction matters enormously: a 33-degree airport reading can hide a road surface that is already below freezing and glazing over.

That on-the-road weather is most valuable in the snowbelt east of Cleveland, where lake-effect squalls off Lake Erie can drop an inch or two of snow an hour and slam visibility to near zero in minutes. Ashtabula, Lake, and Geauga counties along the I-90 corridor are the classic trouble spots, but black ice, winter storms, and dense fog show up statewide, and I-71 and I-75 carry heavy truck traffic year-round. Statewide

The full picture across every interstate and major highway OHGO monitors, from the Ohio River crossings in the south to the Turnpike and the Lake Erie snowbelt in the north. Start here to scan the four big corridors, I-71, I-70, I-75, and I-80/I-90, then zoom into a metro. With roughly 170 RWIS sensors feeding the map, the statewide view is also the fastest way to spot where real on-the-road temperatures are dropping toward freezing before a storm reaches your route.

Columbus

Ohio's capital and largest metro, centered on the infamous I-70/I-71 Split downtown, where the two interstates share the same 1.5-mile stretch and carry around 175,000 vehicles a day through one of the state's worst crash and congestion points. Cameras cover the Split, the I-270 Outerbelt loop, I-670 toward the airport, and the US-23 and US-33 spokes. With the multi-year Downtown Ramp-Up reconstruction reshaping ramps, this is a corridor where seeing the backup beats guessing at it.

Cleveland

I-90 threads downtown as the Innerbelt and bends through Dead Man's Curve, the sharp 35-mph turn near Burke Lakefront Airport that has caused crashes for decades, then runs along the Lake Erie Shoreway. I-71 and I-77 feed in from the south, while the I-480 and I-271 outerbelts carry truck and bypass traffic around the city. Cameras and their attached RWIS sensors here are your early warning for lake-effect snow rolling in off the lake.

Cincinnati

The southwest gateway to Kentucky, where I-71 and I-75 merge across the double-decker Brent Spence Bridge over the Ohio River, one of the most watched bottlenecks in the region as its companion bridge is built. Downtown, the two interstates run through Fort Washington Way before I-71 ducks into the Lytle Tunnel. The I-275 beltway loops the entire metro across three states. Cameras track all of it, plus the chronic truck congestion that defines I-75 here.

Dayton

A classic interstate crossroads where I-75 (the Cincinnati-to-Toledo trucking spine) meets I-70 (the east-west route through the state) just north of the city, with I-675 swinging around the east and southern suburbs toward Beavercreek and Wright-Patterson. Cameras cover the I-70/I-75 interchange and the approaches that funnel freight and commuters together, where a single incident can ripple onto two major interstates at once.

Toledo

Northwest Ohio's hub, where I-75 runs north toward the Michigan line and I-475 loops the west side of the metro. The Ohio Turnpike (I-80/I-90) passes just south of the city, carrying long-haul traffic between Chicago and the East. Toledo sits at the western edge of the Lake Erie snow influence, so the cameras and their RWIS readings are worth a look in winter when squalls and blowing snow cross the flat farmland along I-75.

Akron & Canton

The rubber-and-football corridor along I-77, linking Akron (where I-76 and I-77 cross) south to Canton and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I-76 ties Akron eastward toward Youngstown and the Turnpike. This stretch sits on the inland edge of the snowbelt and climbs through rolling terrain that holds snow and ice, so the on-the-road temperatures attached to these cameras often tell a colder story than the nearest city forecast.

Youngstown & the Turnpike

The Mahoning Valley and the eastern end of the Ohio Turnpike, where I-80 and I-680 serve Youngstown before the highway crosses into Pennsylvania near the state line. The Turnpike (signed I-80/I-90, with I-76 splitting off toward Akron) is the high-speed northern route across Ohio, and cameras along it help you judge the long, exposed rural stretches where winter weather and the Pennsylvania snowbelt can change conditions quickly.

Tips for using Ohio road cameras

Trust the attached sensor over the sky. Because every OHGO camera is linked to its nearest RWIS site, you can read genuine air temperature, dewpoint, and (where reported) pavement surface conditions right on the road you're driving. When air temperature sits near freezing and the dewpoint is close behind, watch for black ice on bridges and ramps even if the pavement looks merely wet on camera.
Watch the snowbelt cameras east of Cleveland before any winter drive on I-90. Lake-effect bands off Lake Erie can drop 1-2 inches an hour over Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties and produce sudden whiteouts. If the cameras toward Ashtabula show a wall of snow while Cleveland looks clear, that band can reach you fast.
Plan around the Columbus Split. The I-70/I-71 overlap downtown is one of Ohio's most congested and crash-prone spots, and the Downtown Ramp-Up reconstruction keeps ramp patterns shifting. Check the cameras on both interstates before you commit, and know the I-270 Outerbelt as your loop-around option.
Give the Cincinnati river crossing extra margin. The Brent Spence Bridge carries combined I-71/I-75 traffic over the Ohio River and is a chronic chokepoint, made busier by the companion-bridge construction. The cameras through Fort Washington Way and the Lytle Tunnel show you whether the approach is moving before you reach the bridge.
Respect Dead Man's Curve. The sharp 35-mph Innerbelt turn on I-90 near downtown Cleveland surprises drivers at highway speed in good weather and is genuinely dangerous in rain or snow. Glance at the camera there before you reach it, especially at night or in wet conditions.

How many traffic cameras does Ohio have on the map?

Our Ohio OHGO map pulls roughly 1,120 live cameras from the Ohio Department of Transportation's OHGO system. Coverage is heaviest on the interstates and the big metro interchanges (Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, Toledo), and extends across the Ohio Turnpike and major highways statewide.

Why does Ohio show real road weather next to the cameras?

OHGO operates roughly 170 native RWIS (Road Weather Information System) sensor sites planted directly along ODOT-maintained roadways, and every camera on our map is tied to its nearest one. So the air temperature, dewpoint, humidity, and wind you see are genuine on-the-road readings, not a distant airport's numbers. Where the sensor measures it, you also get pavement and surface conditions, which is ideal for judging winter ice risk.

What is the Columbus Split?

The Split is the roughly 1.5-mile stretch downtown where I-70 and I-71 overlap and share the same lanes. It carries around 175,000 vehicles a day and is one of Ohio's worst spots for crashes and congestion, which is why ODOT is rebuilding it through the multi-phase Downtown Ramp-Up project. The cameras let you see whether the Split is flowing before you enter it, with the I-270 Outerbelt as a bypass.

How bad is lake-effect snow on the Cleveland snowbelt?

It can be severe. Bands of lake-effect snow off Lake Erie regularly hit Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties east of Cleveland, with snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour and sudden whiteouts along the I-90 corridor. Conditions can be clear in Cleveland and treacherous twenty miles east, which is exactly why the cameras and their attached on-the-road sensors are so useful here.

Can I check the Brent Spence Bridge and Cincinnati interstates?

Yes. The map covers I-71 and I-75 across the Brent Spence Bridge over the Ohio River, through Fort Washington Way downtown, into the Lytle Tunnel, and around the I-275 beltway. With the companion bridge under construction, the cameras are the quickest way to see whether the river crossing and its approaches are backed up before you get there.

Does the map cover the Ohio Turnpike?

It does. The Ohio Turnpike (signed I-80/I-90, with I-76 splitting off toward Akron) runs east-west across northern Ohio from the Indiana line to Pennsylvania, and cameras along it help you judge the long, exposed rural stretches and the Toledo, Cleveland-area, and Youngstown segments where winter weather moves in fast.

How often do the camera images update?

OHGO camera stills refresh frequently, typically every minute or two, so what you see is close to real time. The linked RWIS sensors report observations every few minutes, giving you current on-the-road temperature, dewpoint, humidity, and wind rather than a stale reading. Refresh the map for the newest image and the latest sensor values.
